Reaalprojekt Signs Contract for the Design of the Keila Southern Bypass
Reaalprojekt OÜ has signed a contract to prepare the detailed design for the Keila southern bypass. This is an important infrastructure project aimed at improving mobility and enhancing traffic safety in the Keila area.
Project Objectives and Background
Currently, the town of Keila is effectively divided in two by the railway, which causes frequent traffic disruptions due to intensive train traffic. The situation becomes particularly challenging when the only level crossing is temporarily closed or under maintenance.
The planned southern bypass will redirect transit traffic away from the city, reducing congestion on urban streets and improving traffic flow and safety for both local residents and through traffic.
In addition, the new connection will improve access for emergency services, enabling faster response times to areas located on the other side of the railway. Access to the southern industrial area of Keila will also be improved, supporting business development and the creation of new jobs.
Project Location and Scope
The Keila southern bypass is planned as a 1+1 lane road connecting National Road No. 11 (Tallinn Ring Road) and National Road No. 11371 (Keila–Ohtu).
The route is located in Harju County and runs along the borders of four municipalities:
- Harku Municipality (Tutermaa village)
- Saue Municipality (Valingu village)
- City of Keila
- Lääne-Harju Municipality (Ohtu village)
The construction of the new bypass will create better connections to the national main road network and improve the overall efficiency of the regional transport system.
Scope of Design
Within the project, a comprehensive detailed design will be prepared, covering all necessary technical solutions and documentation required for construction.
The scope of work includes, among other things:
- conducting topographical-geodetic and geotechnical surveys
- developing technical design solutions
- preparing drawings, reports, and other project documentation
All work will be carried out in accordance with applicable standards and best engineering practices.
Project Timeline
Design works have already commenced and are progressing in accordance with the agreed schedule in close cooperation with the contracting authority.
The Keila southern bypass project represents an important step in improving mobility and the living environment in the region. Reaalprojekt is proud to contribute to the development of modern and efficient infrastructure.
